The third regional conference of the EU-funded Study on Safe and Secure Parking Places for Trucks was organized on 25 September 2018 at the IAA in Hannover. The event, that was hosted by VW Financial Services, showed a clear need for better and more secure working conditions for truck drivers. Secure parking areas are a key component to achieve this goal.

Mr. Frederik Rasmussen from the European Commission (DG MOVE) underlined the need for adequate social conditions for truck drivers. A survey carried out in the study shows that a clear majority of the interviewed truck drivers, transport companies and shippers see a definitive need for reliable secure parking areas for trucks along the European highway network.

The present stakeholders from the transport sector underlined the need for coherent security and comfort standards, infrastructural framework conditions and adequate financing to enable and accelerate the deployment of secure parking areas for trucks where they are most needed.

Among other results the study is delivering a comprehensive set of maps showing the current infrastructural gaps along with a manual for truck parking users, operators, investors and authorities to facilitate the understanding and deployment of additional secure truck parking areas.

The results of the study will be presented during the Final Project Conference on 6 November 2018 in Brussels. You can already register here.
