Brussels, October 5, 2016

With around 100 participants ESPORG, the European Secure Parking Organisation, organized a successful high-level conference in Brussels on safe parking areas for trucks.

At the Press Club Brussels Europe Ms. Désirée Oen, Deputy Head of Cabinet of EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc, and several high-level speakers and guests from the transport industry debated on the challenges and opportunities linked with safe parking areas in Europe. The number of safe parking areas must be increased significantly across the EU by 2020. Only parking areas certified according to an EU-wide quality scheme should be labelled as “safe and secure”.

ESPORG President Dirk Penasse stated: “Security, services and connectivity of parking areas are key to ensure that cargo theft, crime and accidents effectively decrease along with social dumping. This is vital for the competitiveness of Europe’s transport sector.”

Subsequently two projects supported by the European Commission were presented as well: One project in Romania implemented by the company A&O based in Lugoj (Timisoara) and one project implemented in Flanders by TOTAL Belgium.
