The German government has extended the exemptions regarding driving and rest times of truck drivers by one month until 17 May 2020.

This includes deviations from existing rules in terms of the transport of fuel, medical products as well as human and animal food, irrespective of the weight of the vehicle:

  • The daily driving time may be extended up to ten hours at maximum five times a week.
  • A drivers may take two subsequent reduced weekly rests if he or she takes at least four weekly rests in four subsequent weeks, of which at least two must be regular weekly rests.
  • If two reduced weekly rests are taken subsequently, the next rest must be taken prior to the following weekly rest – as a compensation for the two reduced rests.
